Review - Modern Warfare Remastered

Created on Sunday, 04 December 2016

I remember playing Call of Duty on Playstation 3, and how amazed I was at the visuals for this game. I remember thinking that this would be it, this would be the greatest FPS game ever created, and even though many years have passed since my brain worked like that, the Call of Duty franchise might just have some of the best FPS games in history but one thing is for certain, it is one of the most successful franchise ever created. And here we are, years later and we already got a remake of the forth Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare: Remastered for the Playstation 4.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare first saw light in 2007 and was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision and it was the first game in the Call of Duty series to break out of the then well-known World War II setting and into the modern era. This was a smart move on the developers behalf as this release was critically acclaimed world wide and aggregated and impressive 94% score from both GameRankings and Metacritic. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was also the top-selling game worldwide for 2007 with sales of around seven million copies by January 2008 and almost sixteen million by November 2013.

So, with all that behind us, you can hate the series all you want but you can not argue its relevance and the reason as to why we now have a remastered version of the current set of consoles, it just makes sense on a financial level but luckily also on a entertaining level as Modern Warfare was and still is incredible fun and entertaining experience. And still to this day there are people who don't consider themselves gamers who will know and play a Call of Duty game.

This review won't bring up anything about the game itself as there are probably million of reviews out on the game from when it first released, and since this is the remastered version of this release we are going to focus mainly on the differences between the two. So right off the bat this game looks like a remastered version and not a bran new Call of Duty game, and for anyone who still haven't figured this out yet and are only interested in the latest and greatest graphics this experience is not for you. This experience is more for those who enjoyed and loved the first release and have fond memories of spending numerous hours in front of the TV yelling and screaming.

Modern Warfare Remastered is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC with the release of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare with the purchase of the Legacy, Digital Deluxe or Legacy Pro edition of the game. Modern Warfare Remastered was also developed by Raven Software who is know for developing the multiplayer modes for several of the COD titles and executive produced by Infinity Ward. And this is supposed to be a result of an online petition by fans of the original game.

Modern Warfare Remastered comes with the original campaign mode and 10 maps for multiplayer at launch, and the rest of the maps being available as free DLC next month, December. Everything is here from what you remember of the original release but also added as a additional feature is the Kill Confirmed mode from Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare Remastered is a great revisit to the glory days of FPS, and Raven Software has done a brilliant job of bringing this classic back to life with revamped graphics and sound to help satisfy your now spoiled eyes and ears. And if you have any history with the original release there is no question about you enjoying this remastered version.
